Wilson® I Certification
Overview
The WRS Level I Certification program is designed to prepare teachers to effectively implement WRS Steps 1-6 with students who are reading and spelling below grade level, as well as those diagnosed with a language-based learning disability, such as dyslexia. It consists of two components: 1) the WRS Intensive Instruction for the Non-Responsive Reader (Steps 1-6) online course and 2) the WRS Steps 1-6 Practicum.
Completion of WRS Level I Certification makes one eligible to receive the professional credential of Wilson® Dyslexia Practitioner (W.D.P.).
Prerequisites
- WRS Introductory Course (completed within the last five years); Bachelor’s Degree in Education or a related field
Duration
- Individuals have 12 months from the date of enrollment to complete the online course and practicum.
Graduate Credit
- Up to nine graduate credits (optional) are available through Fitchburg State Univ., Fitchburg, MA, upon completion of course requirements. Please see wilsonlanguage.com for details.

- Identify factors for successful WRS small-group instruction. • Review the planning for & execution of WRS Lesson Blocks 1, 2, & 3 and differentiating instruction for maximum small-group success.
- Develop a word-conscious lesson.
- Understand the role of spelling in writing fluency.
- Determine how to ensure students successfully access complex text; both literary and informational text structures.
- Understand how to select the appropriate text and tasks for students in order to effectively plan for and deliver fluency and comprehension instruction.
Workshop Details
All workshops are held in Paradise Valley, Arizona.
All workshops are facilitated by a Wilson® Credentialed Trainer (W.C.T.).
In-person workshops are facilitated at The Jones-Gordon School campus.
