The JGS Personalized Admissions Experience

Choosing the right school is a deeply personal decision, and at The Jones-Gordon School, our admissions process reflects that. From your first inquiry to enrollment, we take time to understand your child’s unique learning profile, strengths, and goals. Our team partners with families every step of the way, offering guidance rooted in insight, empathy, and honesty.

Lower & Middle School Admissions

(Grades 1-8)

The JGS Lower & Middle Schools are the right fit for bright, capable students with dyslexia and related learning differences.

Classrooms are grounded in the Science of Reading, with small-group, structured literacy instruction led by highly trained teachers. The daily FLEX period provides academic intervention, ensuring each student receives what they need to learn and grow.

High School Admissions

(Grades 9-12)

The JGS High School is personalized, not standardized. We offer a college-preparatory experience in a small, connected community where students are known, challenged, and celebrated. Our program is ideal for students, whether they have learning differences or simply seek a more engaging, relationship-driven environment, who thrive with expert instruction, flexible pathways, and real-world learning.

With small classes, AP/Honors options, meaningful travel, vibrant classes, and deep teacher-student connections, students build the confidence and skills to lead, create, and grow—both in and beyond the classroom. JGS is not an alternative or therapeutic school—it’s a place where students find purpose, belonging, and a clear path to college and life beyond.

Our Student Focus

Because of our specialized mission, we are not equipped to serve students whose primary challenges are behavioral or who are experiencing significant school avoidance. Maintaining this focus allows us to provide the highest level of instruction and success for the students we are best suited to serve.

Step 1:

Learn About JGS

Begin by exploring our website and learning about our schools to understand what makes JGS different and whether your child might thrive here.

You’ll get a sense of:

  • What “a JGS student” looks like
  • Our highly personalized, relationship-based approach
  • The kind of learning environment we create for our students

Once you’re ready, complete our brief Inquiry Form. You’ll automatically receive an email from our Admissions Office, with a link to schedule a 15-20 minute introductory call.

Step 3:

Personalized Admissions Call

On this call, you’ll speak directly with Jennifer Palmer, who will learn more about your child and help determine whether JGS may be the right fit.  If it seems like your child aligns well with our mission and programming, you’ll be invited to complete an Application, including submission of:

  • Educational Evaluations (psych-ed, neuropsych, etc.)
  • Teacher Recommendations

If we’re not the right fit, we’ll provide thoughtful referrals and guidance, such as educational advocates, alternative schools, and tutoring centers.

This call also includes updates on our grade-level availability or waitlist status.

Step 4:

On-Campus Tour

You’ll visit JGS for a personalized campus tour with the Admissions Director and—if available—our Division Directors. You’ll explore classrooms, meet staff, and experience our warm, engaged learning environment firsthand.

Step 5:

Submit Your Application

Families invited to apply will submit a completed application, the $150 application fee, and all required supporting documents (such as educational evaluations, teacher recommendations, and other relevant materials). Once all materials are received, our admissions team will review the full application packet and contact you within 3–5 business days.

Step 6:

Shadow Days & Assement

If the tour confirms that we’re likely a great fit, we’ll schedule your child’s three-day shadow experience:

  • Day 1: Half-day classroom shadow with a student host
  • Day 2: Full-day immersion in JGS life
  • Day 3: Half-day academic assessments (reading, writing, math) to support placement decisions

Step 7:

Review & Decision

Our team meets to review the full admissions file, tour impressions, shadow feedback, and assessment results. Then, we’ll connect with you:

  • If it’s a match and there’s space available, you’ll receive a WELCOME TO JGS email with an Online Enrollment Contract.
(a $1,500 deposit applies toward tuition).

  • If it’s a match but the grade is full, your child will be added to our Waiting List.

  • If JGS is not the best fit at this time, we’ll call personally with alternative recommendations and resources to help guide you through any next steps.
