What?! You read it right… If the kids raise $1500 for the amazing organization, WaterIsLife, and our adopted village in North Ghana, Ms. Dana will drink toilet water—through a WaterIsLife filter straw, of course! If you want to join in the fun, you help us by donating to this amazing cause! (See Ms. Liz at the front desk 🙂 ). UPDATE: we’ve surpassed our goal! Stay tuned for pics!
September 2014: At the beginning of the school year, two students read a book (with Ms. Melissa) that introduced them to the WATERisLIFE organization and the research project, The Drinkable Book, which will provide clean drinking water to the world’s most deprived areas. The students were so inspired by the story that they wanted to know more. Ms. Melissa fostered their interest and recommended that we bring the WATERisLIFE founder to JGS.
In September, JGS was honored to welcome Kristine Bender from WATERisLIFE. “WATERisLIFE’s mission is to provide clean water, sanitation and hygiene programs. Saving lives. Transforming communities.” Kristine spoke to the children about the importance of clean water, what products they provide to villages around the world (filter straws and buckets, The Drinkable Book), and what we can do to help. She showed three short videos that will stay in our hearts for life: (Watch with a box of tissues handy!)video 1, video 2, video 3
After Kristine Left, the lower and middle school students worked in groups with high school students as team leaders. They generated a list of about 50 ways JGS can get involved. As a result, JGS is launching a year-long project to support with this fantastic, awe-inspiring cause.
