Service learning, giving back

Nov 4, 2019

Starting this week, JGS is collecting items for a Birthday in a Bag program through Arizona Helping Hands, a non-profit that provides essential needs for children in foster care. Before receiving a Birthday in a Bag—filled with things most of us take for granted on birthdays—many children in foster care have never before had their birthdays acknowledged!

All JGS families are encouraged to participate by donating large, sturdy gift bags; cake mix, frosting, & cake pans; candles; streamers; balloons; and other birthday items. (Here’s a handy flyer with a list of wanted items.) At school, students will create handmade birthday cards for the kids, and high schoolers will assemble the bags and help deliver them to Arizona Helping Hands for distribution to those in need. Special thanks to Jackson’s mom, Emily Hine, for connecting us with this great organization!
