The Power of Early Intervention at The Jones-Gordon School

At The Jones-Gordon School (JGS), we believe that lifelong learning is rooted in exploration, imagination, and problem-solving. Our early intervention approach harnesses play as a dynamic learning tool, fostering essential cognitive, social, and emotional skills in an engaging and natural way. Through play, children develop key executive function skills such as working memory, inhibitory control, and cognitive flexibility.

Student-initiated and teacher-guided play nurtures planning and organization, allowing children to generate ideas, structure activities, and build independence. Additionally, play strengthens language acquisition and communication skills, laying a solid foundation for literacy development.

With a strong emphasis on language and literacy, JGS implements Tier II classroom reading interventions to support emerging readers through targeted instruction that reinforces foundational skills.

By second grade, students requiring more intensive support participate in Tier III interventions using the Wilson Language System, which provides tailored instruction to meet their unique needs. Over the years, we have witnessed remarkable growth in students who join JGS through the Foundations classroom. Our approach not only builds a strong academic framework but also nurtures vital social skills such as cooperation, sharing, negotiating, and conflict resolution, fostering a lifelong love of learning. As children explore, experiment, and imagine, they develop both academic readiness and the ability to engage meaningfully with others, preparing them for future success.
