Humanities Teacher

Middle School Position

Responsibilities:

Curriculum Development & Design:

  • Collaborate with the teaching team to design and implement a powerful and
    challenging humanities curriculum that aligns with thematic units and school guidelines.
  • Integrate literature, writing, history, geography, and cultural studies to create a comprehensive and interdisciplinary learning experience.

Classroom Instruction:

  • Integrate literature, writing, history, geography, and cultural studies to create a comprehensive and interdisciplinary learning experience.
  • Deliver engaging and student-centered lessons that cater to diverse learning styles and abilities.
  • Foster critical thinking, analytical skills, and a love for literature and social studies through interactive and thought-provoking activities.

Assessment and Feedback:

  • Develop and administer assessments to evaluate student understanding and progress.
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback to students, parents, and colleagues, supporting academic growth.

Individualized Support:

  • Identify and address the unique learning needs of individual students, providing additional support or challenges as required.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and support staff to implement strategies for students with diverse needs.

Technology Integration:

  • Incorporate technology into the classroom to enhance learning experiences.
  • Stay informed about educational technology trends and tools.

Classroom Management:

  • Establish and maintain a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes respect and active participation.
  • Implement effective classroom management strategies to create an optimal learning atmosphere.

Parent Communication:

  • Maintain open and proactive communication with parents regarding student progress, classroom activities, and upcoming events.
  • Attend parent-teacher conferences and meetings as needed.

Extracurricular Involvement:

  • Participate in school-wide events, and extracurricular activities, that contribute to the overall development of students.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, English, Social Studies, or a related field.
  • State teaching certification.
  • Proven experience teaching middle school humanities.
  • Strong curriculum development and instructional skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Enthusiasm for fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment.

Working Conditions:

  • Well-maintained and equipped classrooms
  • Work hours may vary, including some evenings and weekends for extracurricular activities and school events
  • Teach in an environment with smaller class sizes
  • Follow a structured academic schedule
  • Access to modern technology and educational tools to enhance the teaching and learning experience.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to traverse school facilities and lead students to safety in the event of an emergency.
