About The Wilson Reading System (WRS)
Specifically designed for students with reading and other language-based disorders such as dyslexia, WRS is an intensive, structured, multisensory program for students who have been unable to learn to read and spell with other teaching strategies. WRS is the flagship program of Wilson Language Training and the foundation of all other Wilson programs.
About our Instructor:
With JGS Since 2014
At Ohio University, Melissa earned a bachelor’s degree summa cum laude in Elementary Ed., Special Ed., & Reading. She attended ASU to earn a master’s in Curriculum & Instruction (emphasis in Reading) and became a Certified Structured Literacy/Dyslexia Specialist (SLDS). Prior to joining the JGS team, she was a special education teacher for PVUSD & a private tutor for nearly two decades. She is Wilson Language® Level II certified; has received training in Texas Scottish Rite Hospital’s dyslexia reading intervention, called Take Flight; and has been trained in Lindamood-Bell’s Visualizing and Verbalizing®. Most recently, Melissa earned her certification as a Wilson Language® Trainer and has been instrumental in assisting with our Wilson Partner School programming. A big fan of the musical Wicked, her favorite lyrics, “I think I’ll try defying gravity, and you can’t pull me down!” speak volumes about Melissa’s character as a role model. She empowers students to “defy gravity” every day!
