NEW College Credit & Honors Programs

The Jones-Gordon School is pleased to announce new High School Dual Enrollment and Honors Programs beginning with the 2021-22 school year.

 

Dual Enrollment for College Credit

In partnership with Rio Salado Community College, eligible high school juniors and seniors (with a minimum 3.0 GPA) can take college-level classes taught by JGS teachers and can receive high school and college credit simultaneously. Students must pass dual enrollment courses with a C or better in order to earn college credit.

The following courses are offered for Dual Enrollment in the 2021-22 school year:

  • First-Year Composition (ENG 101) 
  • First-Year Composition (ENG 102)
  • Intro to Literature (ENH 110)
  • Literature & the American Experience (ENH 111)
  • College Mathematics (MAT 142)
  • Precalculus (MAT 187)
  • U.S. History to 1865 (HST 103)
  • U.S. History 1865 to Present (HST 104)

By participating in Dual Enrollment courses, students may:

  • Start accumulating college credits, helping them to graduate on time (or even early) while potentially saving money on total college costs.
  • Transition more easily from high school to college by being introduced to the rigors of college coursework early.
  • Find their area of interest before the pressure is on them to declare a major.
  • Earn college credit without having to take and pass an additional exam (such as with AP classes).

Jones-Gordon Honors Program

Modeled after Barrett, The Honors College at ASU, the JGS Honors Program is project-based, interest-driven, and is designed to cultivate student strengths and interests. An extension of classroom learning, the Honors Project is a self-defined capstone experience intended to showcase the breadth and depth of student learning within a fairly narrowly defined area of study. Students may propose to complete an Honors Project for any class. Each Honors Project consists of a single independently-produced deliverable product, due at the end of the semester.

  • Research presentation
  • Extended essay
  • Creative work 
  • Community service

  • Boosts GPA and allows for the distinction of an Honors designation on transcripts.
  • Students experience the rigorous coursework important for success in college.
