The Jones-Gordon Middle School
Challenge, Confidence, Connection — Every Day.
At Jones-Gordon, our Middle School program thoughtfully blends the strengths of a traditional academic model with innovative supports tailored to meet the needs of all learners. Small class sizes, strategic scheduling, embedded executive functioning instruction, and flexible math groupings—including advanced, high school-level options—ensure students grow academically at a pace that’s right for them. Our Daily FLEX Hour, STEM and/or ERWA (Proprietary Explicit Reading and Writing Approach), and Enrichment Courses add layers of intervention, challenge, and inspiration to every student’s day. Monthly field studies, service projects, and annual travel experiences (such as CIMI, AstroCamp, Pali Institute, and New York/DC) extend learning far beyond the classroom. With expert teachers and an emphasis on emotional intelligence development, JGS middle schoolers are supported in thriving both academically and personally.

Middle School Technology
Device-Free Zone
The Middle School at JGS is a cell phone and smartwatch-free zone during the school day. Personal devices are stored away to support focus, face-to-face connection, and the development of essential executive function skills in a distraction-free environment.
Chromebooks
Each JGS Middle School student is assigned a personal laptop for academic use during the school day. Students use Google Workspace and other educational tools to enhance learning, build digital literacy, and support their academic growth. Technology is purposefully integrated—and always remains just one thoughtful part of the overall learning experience.
Mathematics
Our Middle School math program encourages inquiry and mathematical discovery, fostering a deep understanding of concepts through exploration. Students are grouped into homogeneous math levels to ensure personalized learning, with the option to advance to high school-level math based on their readiness. Expert instructors guide students to develop strong problem-solving skills and a passion for mathematics.
Science
JGS Middle School students experience a dynamic, hands-on science curriculum built on a three-year rotation that covers life, physical, and earth sciences. Through labs, inquiry-based learning, research projects, and engaging classroom activities, students are encouraged to ask questions, test ideas, and think like scientists. Learning is further enriched through immersive field experiences at places like Pali Institute, CIMI, and AstroCamp, where science comes to life beyond the classroom.
English Language Arts & Humanities
At JGS, English Language Arts and Humanities are taught through a cross-curricular, project-based approach that brings learning to life. Students make meaningful connections between literature, history, geography, and science as they explore big ideas across disciplines.
Our ELA program is grounded in the Science of Reading, with a strong focus on vocabulary, morphology, and evidence-based strategies. Through annotation, literary discussion, and Socratic seminars, students develop critical thinking and writing skills. A schoolwide writing approach—centered on structured support and reflection—has led to measurable gains in clarity, coherence, and analytical depth across all grade levels.
In Humanities, students explore history and geography through engaging themes that build research, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills. Using both primary and secondary sources, they learn to analyze historical events and make real-world connections—gaining a deeper understanding of how the past shapes the present.
Each semester culminates in student showcases, where learners present their writing, projects, and creative work—demonstrating both subject mastery and personal growth. With daily writing, rich discussion, and opportunities to present what they’ve learned, JGS students don’t just study language and history—they actively engage with and share it.
