The month of October is not only National Bullying Prevention and ADHD Month; it’s also Dyslexia Awareness Month! This week in homeroom and advisory periods, students are focusing on demystifying dyslexia.
Most of you know that dyslexia is a language-based learning difference that causes an unexpected difficulty with reading in an individual who has the intelligence to be a much better reader. While those of us unaffected by dyslexia can understand it in theory, without having actually experienced the challenges of dyslexia it can be hard to know just how much everyday life is impacted.
