The Jones-Gordon School (JGS) is seeking a Middle School English Language Arts (ELA) Teacher who is passionate about teaching students with dyslexia and other language-based learning differences. Position Overview

The Middle School ELA Teacher will develop and implement engaging literacy instruction designed to support students with language-based learning differences, including dyslexia. The ideal candidate is a creative, student-centered educator who thrives in a collaborative, interdisciplinary teaching environment and values meaningful, project-based learning experiences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement evidence-based ELA instruction, integrating the Science of Reading and structured literacy approaches.
  • Utilize differentiated instruction, thematic units, and project-based learning to engage students.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across disciplines to create cross-curricular learning experiences.
  • Foster a supportive, student-centered classroom environment with a focus on growth and confidence-building.
  • Engage in professional development and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, English, literacy, or a related field required; master’s degree preferred.
  • Experience teaching middle school ELA or literacy.
  • Knowledge of the Science of Reading, structured literacy, and best practices for students with dyslexia.
  • Strong classroom management skills with a strengths-based, student-centered approach.
  • Commitment to collaboration, innovation, and professional growth.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to traverse school facilities and lead students to safety in the event of an emergency.
