Coach Kris Shen is going on his second year of coaching basketball and is the Athletic Director for The Jones-Gordon School. Kris plans on spreading his love and knowledge for basketball to athletes of all levels. HIs main goal is to help all coaches and athletes understand sportsmanship, teamwork, and what it means to be truly successful in life.
Jeanine deRozieresTrack and Field Coach
Coach Jeanine deRozieres has been the middle school track and field coach for the past 2 years. She moved from Florida where she coached middle school track for 4 years. Coaching track is her passion and she is very excited and looking forward to track in the spring.
Cady MaharajTennis Coach
Coach Cady Maharaj, along with Coach Josh Murray, started the JGS middle school and high school tennis program in the Spring of 2018. Cady is a certified USPTA tennis professional who has been coaching here in the valley for the past ten years. She is the Youth Tennis Director at Mountain View Community Center in addition to teaching Physical Education here at JGS. Cady played Division I tennis at Utah State University before returning to Arizona as the Head Women’s Tennis Coach at Glendale Community College. After 2 years at GCC, Cady started the NAIA Tennis program at Arizona Christian University as head women’s coach and men’s assistant coach. She enjoys sharing her passion for tennis and coaching all levels of players.
Josh MurrayTennis Coach
Coach Josh Murray is an energetic and passionate individual that enjoys the personal and athletic development that sports offer. He has a variety of experience in racquet sports: badminton and tennis. He coached a team of 25 girls and 4 boys for two years as a badminton coach; additionally, he coached a team of 20 girls for a year in tennis. At the Jones-Gordon School, he acted as the assistant coach to Coach Cady for the tennis team. Together, they successfully established the tennis program and its presence in the Canyon Athletic Association. He loves learning new coaching techniques from other coaches, and he enjoys helping students be their best selves.
Lorraine SchoenCross Country Coach
Lorraine Schoen is a middle school Humanities teacher for JGS and will be coaching the middle school cross country team this year. Lorraine was a member of the inaugural girls’ cross country team at her high school. She was also on the swim team, ran track, and played soccer. Lorraine previously coached the middle school cross country team for Akimel A-al in Kyrene. She has also coached park district soccer along with bowling, track, and basketball for Special Olympics. Lorraine believes in building teams by creating a sense of belonging and importance for all members!
Marcus ShawSoftball, Basketball and Football Coach
Coach Marcus Shaw is entering his 2nd year as a member of the JGS staff as a Behavior Professional on the Support Team, as well as a co-teacher of Personal Development in High School. His athletic interests focus primarily on baseball, basketball, and weight training. Marcus spends his evenings either exercising and staying fit at a local Mountainside Fitness, or playing outfield on his slow-pitch softball team. This year he will be on the softball coaching staff, where his experience and knowledge from playing 2nd base for Glendale Community College will certainly come in handy. He’ll also be stepping in to assist with other sports such as basketball and football, as well as filling in when necessary for PE classes throughout the year.
Amanda BurkeCheerleading Coach
Coach Amanda Burke has coached cheerleading at The Jones-Gordon School for the past three years. She grew up cheering for football and basketball all through middle and high school along with participating on a competitive team in high school. She also previously coached a middle school squad for three years at a local charter school in Glendale, AZ. Her favorite part of coaching is watching the girls learn and grow together as a team over the course of the season, and of course having fun while bringing the joy of cheer to the students at JGS. This will also be Amanda’s second year as assistant track and field coach. Amanda comes from a track and field family and enjoys all aspects of the sport. She loves helping students find the events that are just right for them and guiding them to achieve their goals over the course of a season.
